Nikki Smith -
Chair
Nikki only recently joined Agender and soon found
herself being asked to consider being nominated for the position of Chair, an
invitation which she considered a challenge but readily accepted. She is a
transgender lady who, while not a biological woman, lives like one as much as
she can. She has been like this for much of her life, but only recently, after a
life defining moment, decided in the words of the recent Human Rights Commission
report, “To be who I am”. She works in the educational sector and enjoys
interacting with a wide variety of people. Nikki is married and has a very
supportive partner and two lovely daughters who accept and who are proud of her
in the life she now leads.
She is committed to improving networking and support for TG people in our region and to helping create a positive public profile of TG people in New Zealand. Besides being Chair, she likes the outdoors and keeping fit, is a keen reader and writer and enjoys a fine glass of wine!
Michelle - Secretary
Hallo,
my name is Michelle. I will say this only once.
As your Secretary, it is my task to take notes and record matters arising at Committee meetings. In a previous life I have held the positions of the Chair, Treasurer, Meeting Organiser, and Publicist of a social club - so being Secretary kind of rounds out the CV.. I must like what I'm doing because I stood for the position again - and got re-elected!
I like kittens, Zen Monastery ambient sound, candlelight dinners, nature in all Her glory, and the latest series of Dr Who. I joined Agender because I have a dream. I dream of a future of real equality. A future when men and women, and people who are neither or either, can freely express who they feel to be through the clothes they wear. A future where people are unafraid to wear whatever feels most comfortable in the moment. Where people can freely express their greatest potential to the world, in order to show their greatest potential to themselves. Equal opportunity for all is what I believe to be our birthright.
I believe with passion that the work that Agender does is helping to bring that future to reality. For me this is about having fun, networking, solidarity, dressing up, education, and some silly dancing. I hope that you'll join us in our journey, and that we can support you in yours. Did I mention the dancing?
